How many guys on the puck?

At the end of this video I should know the following

  1. If there are two opponents near the puck, how many Hawks should there be?

  2. If the defensemen is right up against the boards and you are skating with the puck what would be an effective move to get the puck around him?

  3. When backchecking what should I do?

  2. Take a step towards the middle, which forces D off the boards, chip and go. If D does not come off boards skate around him or look for the pass.

  3. Skate to the middle and find a man take away his stick.

D Zone Face-off Setup

At the end of this video I should know the following:

  1. How to set up for a faceoff

  2. What my job is if we lose the faceoff

  3. What my job is if we win the faceoff.

  2. Man to man. D man have the wingers and Center has the center. Wings have the points. We stay man to man until puck is in corner and we can set up in our d-zone coverage or out of the zone.

  3. We will work on this in practice- but in general you should know the setup.

D-Zone COverage

  1. If the puck is in the corner what is the job of each player in the defensive zone?

    • Note you should always have an active stick and have your stick in the passing lanes. As you are being aggressive make sure you are stick on stick!

At the end of this video I should know the following:

  1. What is the first thing both Nicholas and Ben did a good job at on this shift?

  2. Once Ben gained possession of the puck and had open space what is something he did that allowed him to gain speed quickly?

  1. They were aggressive on the puck. Two hands on their stick and took away their time and space.

  2. Pushed the puck with one hand until he was in traffic again. He also had his head up.

  3. Right around the hash marks on both sides to about the top of the circle.

D-Zone Breakout and Breakaway

At the end of this video I should know the following:

  1. In the D-zone Bryce was the weak side wing. What are two things he did well?

  2. As the breakout started to happen what did Bryce do that was effective in the transition out of our zone?

D Zone Faceoff Positive & Negative

  2. Look off the pass to make the goalie lean the other way giving you more room to shoot into the net.

  3. His man, which in this case was the center because he was playing center.

At the end of this video I should know the following:

  1. If playing Defense, is it ok for you to pinch on the strong side?

  2. After you pinch has a defenseman and you either chip the puck low, make a pass, or shoot what should you be doing next?

  1. Yes, but time it out the right way. I want you to continue to be aggressive on the strong side!

  2. Get back into your defensive position.

  3. Cover the D that pinches. But if we do gain possession do not be afraid to get open for a scoring opportunity.

  4. Backcheck to the middle of the ice and find a man to cover. Take his stick away and be between him and the net.

At the end of this video I should know the following:

  1. Where should your stick always be, specifically in the d-zone.

  2. Colby did an outstanding job recognizing the guy in the weak side slot, what could Colby have done to make this a perfect film clip?

  3. How beastmode is Ezra taking a huge check and getting up immediately?

At the end of this video I should know the following:

  1. Draw the d-zone coverage for each player.

  2. If you are the third guy in a situation where the other team only has 2 players (Bryce in this scenario) you should be between the puck and the _______.

  3. Parker does an amazing job annoying the guy in the slot. What is one thing he did pretty good but we can all improve on?

  4. Where should our stick ALWAYS be?

  2. Net... you should also be aware of what guys are behind you.

  3. Having his head on a swivel. You should know where every guy is on the ice at all times. Do not get caught with someone sneaking behind you!
